What is Hijama?
Hijama, also called cupping, is a traditional therapy where cups create gentle suction on the skin. In wet Hijama, a few light incisions are made before a second cupping. It is a recognised Sunnah practice.
Does it hurt?
Most people feel a pulling sensation from the suction. The incisions in wet Hijama are very shallow, and most clients find the session tolerable and relaxing. Tell us at any point if you are uncomfortable.
What is the difference between dry and wet Hijama?
Dry Hijama uses suction only, with no cuts to the skin. Wet Hijama adds light incisions followed by a second cupping, which is the traditional full method.
How much does it cost?
Dry Hijama is £35, Wet Hijama is £40, and Wet Hijama with Gua Sha massage and consultation is £55.
How long does a session take?
Roughly 30 minutes for Dry Hijama, 45 minutes for Wet Hijama and 75 minutes for the full session with Gua Sha and consultation.
Is it safe? What about hygiene?
We open new, sterile, single use cups and blades for every client, and keep the treatment area clean. We also ask about your health before treating you.
Who should not have Hijama?
Hijama may not be suitable if you are pregnant, take blood thinning medication, have a bleeding or clotting disorder, are very unwell, or have certain skin conditions. Please tell us about your health when booking, and speak to your doctor if you are unsure.
How should I prepare?
Drink water, avoid a heavy meal just beforehand, and wear loose, comfortable clothing. Let us know about any medication you take.
What marks will I have afterwards?
Round marks from the cups are normal and usually fade within a few days. Gua Sha can cause temporary reddening. If you are worried about anything, contact us.
